Gegenort - The Virtual Mine, 2001
International media art project at the disused coal mine "Gegenort" in Neunkirchen/Saar by Claudia Brieske, Leslie Huppert, Gertrud Riethmüller, Monika Bohr and Fevzi Konuk.
The communication sculpture "Gegenort – The Virtual Mine" was planned and realized by Claudia Brieske, Leslie Huppert, Gertrud Riethmüller, Monika Bohr and Fevzi Konuk. By means of "virtual drillings" through the Internet the artists produced artistic concepts from different places of the world.
The concepts were then further developed by the artists in close cooperation with their respective creators (via e-mailing and video conferences) and finally "materialized" at the former coal mine in Neunkirchen/Saar in the summer of 2001.
